iPhone 6S is full | Upgraded Storage | Phone Unusable

Hi. I have an iPhone 6S Plus and I have filled it up the camera roll. In doing that I also started deleting apps installed on my iPhone to make room for more images. Recently I noticed an option for additional storage available in iCloud bringing my storage option to 1.9TB Available if you go from home > settings > icloud > storage. In addition, home > settings > icloud > photos is 'on' with 'icloud photo library' also 'on' which should allow me to "automatically upload and store your entire library in icloud to access photos and videos from all your devices." 'optimize iphone storage' is also checked off. So my question is, how can i use this extra storage that I am paying for monthly to reliably store all my photos from my iphone in icloud while freeing up my iPhone camera (without affecting the images stored in icloud) to take more pictures and videos?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2

I have 1.9TB of storage available and my phone cannot download any apps or take any pictures/videos

That 1.9GB of storage is only on the iCloud servers, not on your phone. Buying more iCloud storage doesn't increase the storage capacity of your iPhone. It's fixed at whatever you bought it at, i.e. 16, 32, 64 GB. It doesn't change. iCloud Storage allows you to have a larger iCloud Photos Library in the cloud and on your iPhone if you have the optimized option enabled on the iPhone.

The meaning of "checked off" isn't clear to me. If you want to use iCloud Photo Library to potentially reduce the storage space required on your phone, you should have Optimize iPhone Storage turned on -- i.e., there should be a check mark to the right of Optimize iPhone Storage.

Hi Just curious if anyone got a chance to see this? Basically when you upgrade your icloud storage to a 2nd TB and try to automatically free up storage on an iPhone with the tools you are given it seems like it does not work seamlessly or it is really complicated. It would be really neat if end users could endlessly take photos and know they are backed up in icloud while the phone manages to always have just enough free space to take more photos and download more apps. Of course I would be willing to pay incrementally for the storage that I use or exceed.

OK. Fair enough. Optimize iPhone Storage is indeed turned "on" and there is "a check mark to the right of Optimize iPhone Storage." So how can i use this extra storage that I am paying for monthly to reliably store all my photos from my iphone in icloud while freeing up my iPhone camera (without affecting the images stored in icloud) to take more pictures and videos? I have 1.9TB of storage available and my phone cannot download any apps or take any pictures/videos. The phone is also glitchy. Theoretically I should be able to upload and store my entire library in iCloud, yet under settings my phone still says "Low Disk Space - Uploading 7,533 items. Would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Thank you kindly! So what is one to do when "optimize iphone storage" is checked and their camera roll is still full? Is the iPhone capable of automatically moving all the iPhone camera rolls photos to icloud (assuming there is server storage paid for and available), while freeing up enough room on the iPhone to continue taking more photos and then loading those new photos into icloud automatically, while always keeping a reserve of free space on the iPhone (assuming icloud storage is not full). I am trying to achieve (I have tried every combination of settings based on the advice in this thread). Cheers!

IiCloud Photo Library needs storage on your iPhone as well. It needs to store thumbnails for browsing, also faces, edits, albums. optimization can reduce the size of your photo library to perhaps ten percent, but not more. If you have 100 GB of photos in iCloud, you will have at least 10GB of photos stored locally. How many photos do you have in iCloud and how many are on your iPhone?
