iOS 10.2 Update Locked to k*****@icloud.com

I was running the latest public beta of iOS10 (10.2) on my 6S+. After upgrading to an iPhone 7, I reset and erased the contents of my 6S+.

I also removed my 6S+ from the list of trusted devices associated with my Apple ID using the iCloud.com website that allows me to see what devices are associated with my Apple ID and remove the 6S+.

Now when I reboot and try to run through the "Setup" of my iPhone 6s+, it tells me it is activated by an account k*****@icloud.com

I have seen other people ask this question before, reference their phone locked to this same iCloud account, and get treated as if they stole the device. I didn't steal the device. I cannot re-activate it with a different Apple ID. I am on Apple Care, have proof of purchase, and will return the device. However, I wanted to report this issue because I suspect it is a real bug with iPhone locking / deactivation. It may be related to having a beta OS installed, erasing the device, and disassociating the device from my Apple ID using the cloud, and then trying to reactivate.

I took the phone into the Apple Store along with the receipt and after about an hour wait for managers and ID checks, they reset the activation lock so I was able t give the phone to my son.

However, this is a bug in Apple's code that it associates an untrusted device with this k*****@icloud.com Apple ID.

Hi,

My thoughts (find my iphone)

The k*******@icloud.com, is ofcourse, the auto icloud account that acts as a pseudo account of your originalaccount.

1.Login using the said icloud apple id

2.Input your old or original password that you used on the account

3.Once logged in go to your desktop app or online

4. Log into icloud

5.Check the devices you are signed into

6.Go to find my iphone

7. Indicate the phone as given away or et al. It will remove your details awaiting the new owner.
