Oct 9, 2016 5:45 AM in response to CalmB4theStormby turingtest2,The only way to turn off backup encryption is with the password that was entered, or wipe the device and start from scratch. The setting is stored on the device itself. The password might be blank, or any computer, Apple ID, or wi-fi password or device PIN that you've used in the past, working from the assumption that if you didn't purposefully enter an encryption password then you might have activated it inadvertently and then responded with a current password that you thought you were being asked for.
There is software that can apparently break the encryption password by brute force but I've no idea which of these products works or represents good value for money.
You can also backup your device to iCloud, then later restore from it. It isn't clear if this process removes the encryption lock when backing up to iTunes, but it is perhaps unlikely.
