Finder drag & drop too slow and freeze, when dragging an item in a crowded window

In the icons view of the Finder of macOS 10.12 Sierra the drag&drop is too slow when dragging a file or folder into a crowded window and want to move it at top or bottom.

The icons of files and folders that are into the crowded window, in fact, moving too slow and freeze few second each time!

And still here, on 15 March 2017.

So annoying! Trying to move image files from one folder window to another. Nothing happens. Worse, after about 57 tries, Sierra suddenly 'works' and the file moves to the new window (folder), but I get an error message which says that the Mac can't find the file I'm trying to move, because it has been moved!

Force-quitting the Finder sometimes restores the drag-and-drop function, but why should I have to keep doing this?

What is going on, Apple?

i too have suddenly experienced this issue and it all started when adding music to my iTunes library. Im not sure if it can be related but iTunes has displayed bizare behaviours such as populating a new album name to every album in the library and creating albums with hundreds of tracks and also combining other albums with random names.

After experiencing this strange episode with iTunes I putting my laptop to sleep I woke up in the morning to this Delay and slow responsiveness to dragging and dropping icons on my desktop.

I have not experienced any issues in any other programs (not yet anyway)

I updated my OS to Siera when apple launched the update (quite some time ago) but issues have only just been experienced.

I have also deleted Library Cache from memory, reset SMC several times and reset NVRAM.

I don't know what to do...I can't work like this.

Try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Hey Dott. Enzo_Vincenzo,

Thanks for reaching out for help in Apple Support Communities. I can see from your post that your iMac has been running slower than normal even for simple tasks like dragging and dropping files/folders. It's important that your iMac runs as smoothly and efficiently as intended and I would like to offer some help to get it back to normal. A step we can try here is resetting your Mac System Management Controller (SMC). This is sometimes necessary if the computer is performing unusually slowly, though it isn't experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization. The steps to do this can be found in the link below.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

If you continue to experience issues, please let us know.

Regards.

Dear norm123, thanks for your fast reply. 🙂

I used your suggestion but doesn't resolved my problem. I specify that I'm an expert Mac User (from Mac OS Classic ), I known all Apple's Systems, I use very well also the Terminal... and I am a Beta Tester.

So! I tried to remove all Finder preferences and .GlobalPreferences.plist (hidden), I deleted all Caches (of System and user), I have reset the PRAM, etc. etc. , but positioning a file or folder beside the top or bottom Bar of a crowded window of Finder, to make the scrolling of the other icons in the window, the scrolling of Icons is very, very slow and freezes few seconds when I try to move the file or folder beside the top and bottom Bar. (You can see my clip in my other post)

Note that my iMac is the top 27'' of may 2014 with 24 GB of RAM (Hynix as original Apple's RAM) and the best Graphic Card with maximum memory!

It is only a my problem?... Installing from Time Machine doesn't solve the problem and I would try other attempts before to reinstall everything from a USB key. Unless this issue is Sierra's issue... 😕 Don't have you this problem in your Mac?

Thanks for your help!
