Q: "Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch"

I get this message every time i try to activate the unlock feature using the apple watch (series 2)

I am running macOS Sierra, MacBook Air 2015, I only have one icloud account. 2FA is on.

I also tried the genius bar with no luck. any tips?
