Sennheiser Momentum, iPhone 6S, & inline remote

I recently purchased an iPhone 6S, running iOS 10.0.2, for use with my Sennheiser Momentum headphones (which I had already been using with an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air 2, also running iOS 10.0.2). While the headphones work fine, the volume control doesn't work most of the time. Increasing the mystery, Apple headphones as well as other third party headphones (Bose, Phonak) all work fine in the new 6S. A trip to the local Apple Store for tech support also led to the answer "everything works fine". I tried the Sennhesier headphones in a few other iPhone 6S's at the shop, but they still failed to work.

This really has me stumped. Anyone have any idea why this Sennheiser inline remote hates the iPhone 6S?

Hello quasimagyar,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to keep your iPhone working with all of your other devices. You've already done some greta troubleshooting and isolation, and in cases like this where you've been able t replicate the behavior with several other iPhones, I would recommend contacting Sennheiser to see if they offer a firmware update. This may help improve communication with other devices. The link below will help you reach out to Sennheiser's support team

Hi Ulexes138,

Thanks for the response. I've been in contact with Sennheiser, and they (basically) bounce the problem back to Apple. Here's what they wrote to me:

Unfortunatly this seems to be a general problem with the Iphone 6 headphone jack and headphones which have a remote/microphone:

There a numerous topics about this online but there doesn't seem to be a solid solution at this point. The problem is most likely caused by the fact the headphone plug sits too deep in the Iphone.

We are willing to check the cable for imperfections an replace it if it seems to be off specs, but considering the known issues with the Iphone we dont think this is very likely.

If you have any more questions, dont hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

your Sennheiser Service Team

I've decided to order a third-party cable--fortunately, the cable on the headphones can be easily replaced.

Thanks again. Appreciate it.
