Q: Deleting photos

How do I delete photos off my macbook without deleting them off my iCloud?

Whenever I press delete it comes up with the message:

"This photo will be deleted from iCloud Photo Library on all your devices."

You can only delete photos from your Mac without deleting from iCloud Photo Library, if your Mac is not syncing with iCloud Photo Library. As long as you are using iCloud Photo Library all deletions and other changes will sync to iCloud and all devices.

 

If you want to free storage, disable the option "Download Originals to this Mac" in the Photos > Preferences > iCloud panel.  Then Photos will remove locally stored originals  from your Photos Library and download them from iCloud, if needed.
