My verification code wont work for Apple tv

I have repeatedly tried to sign into Apple TV with the verification coded sent to my Macbook. Every time, sign in fails and takes me back to the begining. All I want to do is watch a movie! Close to binning the Apple TV. A ridiculously clunky system!
