iMessages appear offline on Macbook

My iMessages always worked on my laptop. Suddenly they're no longer syncing. I'm no longer able to receive nor send messages from my computer. iMessages says that I'm offline.I tried signing out and singing back into iCloud and that hasn't helped. Does anyone now how can I fix this?
