Q: How to upgrade from Yosemite to El Capitan when Sierra is not available for your device?

I am not allowed to upgrade my Macbook Pro 2009 to Sierra since Apple doesn't want me to even though the hardware still would do the job. So I'd like to at least upgrade it from Yosemite to El Capitan. But it looks like Apple has removed El Capitan from the AppStore.

How can I install El Capitan now that Sierra has replaced it in the App Store?

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
