Apple TV

Q: Apple TV V3 truncated on both sides of television pocture

As described, the ATV picture is missing the sides. The centre is displayed properly.

The Panasonic TV displays cable signals properly.

The ATV HDMI was set to Automatic. I tried 1080p60 with the same bad result.

This setup used to display properly.

Any suggeations?

Actually everything. That is, the home page display of apps and most annoying NETFLIX.

Then it sounds like the aspect ratio setting on the TV itself that is doing this

Are you able to set up AR on an input by input basis. Is the image cut of or resized.

Please explain "AR" and "on an input by input basis".

AR is aspect ratio. I'm wondering if you have the ability to set specific inputs to us a specific AR or whether the TV uses the same setting for all inputs.

You might also try the Apple TV on another TV to try to determine if the issue arises from the TV or the Apple TV.

If you still think it's the Apple TV...

Try the following steps for the Apple TV 2 & 3, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

I tried numbers,1, 2, and 3.
I wanted to wait before the reset (4) because it's not my ATV and the owner may not know al the answers.
Im not familiar with the Reset>Restore function, I'll checkit out.

Your initial suggestion of a different TV is next. That should tell me a lot.
I'll post may results eventually, but I do not now have access to either device.

Hi. Are you sure it's not just the TV picture settings? They normally are independent for each input, and depend on the input video signal. When I tap the P.SIZE button on my Samsung remote, it cycles through 4x3, 16x9, and Wide Fit. You can access this from the TV setup menu, but the remote is much handier. Your set should have similar possibilities. It sounds like the HDMI input for ATV is set to 4x3. I know Winston suggested this, but you didn't mention trying it, and it is by far the most likely.
