Q: Macbook Air System Files

I have a Macbook Air 1.7 Ghz i7 8gb mem 500Gb flash storage.

I have just upgraded to Sierra. 243.74Gb of my hard drive is System files. Is this normal? If not what can i do?

Imac I7 2.8 8Gb 4850, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

    That is definitely not normal.  I have 21.1GB of System Files (as shown when looking at About This Mac > Storage).

     

    What can you do?  Well, perhaps you can re-visit how your hard drive got populated in the first place.  Did you do a recent migration?  Did you just upgrade to Sierra from some very old OS X version like Mountain Lion?

     

    System files include the System folder and apps that come with the Mac.  Is there data in the System folder that does not belong there?  That sounds like the likely culprit.
