Q: Whatsapp won't backup to iCloud even though I have 40G free there.

I have an iPhone 5, with 16GB. I am paying for 50 GB a month on iCloud, of which I have 40.6 available.

I am trying to backup and then delete Whatsapp in order to make more room on my phone but I am getting an error message that says "Not Enough iPhone Storage. Free up 563.9 MB of storage space on your iPhone to back up your chats."

This is frustrating - why am I paying for extra room on iCloud if I need more room on my iPhone in order to use it?

iPhone 5, iOS 10

iCloud is a syncing system, not an external 'hard drive'. If you delete them on your device, they will delete from iCloud. To increase space available, go Settings/iCloud/Photos and select Optimize iPhone/iPad Storage. That will reduce the space required by about 90% when fully effective.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm just trying to backup the whatsapp data onto iCloud. I have it set to do so, but the backup doesn't seem to be working. I need to back the data up before I delete and reinstall the app. I don't have my photos set up to be backed up on iCloud, so that's not the issue here.

"that says "Not Enough iPhone Storage. Free up 563.9 MB of storage space on your iPhone to back up your chats.""

Sounds like your phone storage is maxed, and you're being told there is not enough room to "process" a WhatsApp backup.

This has nothing to do with iCloud.
