Q: Safari quits when I click on url window

Every time I click into URL window Safari immediately quits, (not just minimize) shows on icon as not being open.  If I then click on the icon, it opens up to last window opened.

What can this be?

I have a mac

El Capitan 10.11.6

Safari 10.0 (11602.1.50.0.10)

I don't think I have any extensions running - Safari pulldown menu only brings me to the Safari Extensions gallery.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), 24" Early 2009

Safari > Preferences > Search > Search engine

Uncheck the box beside “Include search engine suggestions".

If Safari can’t open a website

    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21431?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues

If this doesn’t help, please run EtreCheck and post the report here.

    http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

Download it, open Downloads folder, click on it to open and select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard”

and then paste it when you reply.

Those suggestions did not help - here's the etrecheck report:  I chose the pulldown option of "Apps are crashing"  should it have been a different report?

    EtreCheck version: 3.0.6 (315)

To check for installed extensions, go to Safari/Preferences/Extensions.

Thanks Eric, I was going to Safari Extensions right on the pull down menu.  Went where you said - I have no extensions

I am replying to my own question.  It finally resolved itself.  Since no one saw anything in the Etrecheck report, I'm not sure what helped. It may have been one of the simple restarts of the computer.  Thanks for helping Eric and dominic23!
