exif data on iPhone 7 doesn't include GPS location

I often use my iPhone to record a GPS location. Since I got my iPhone 7 running 10.0.2 I find that exported JPEG files don't contain the GPS location. But I appear to be recording it because Photos is able to produce a map that shows where the photo was taken. That's all fine but I want to use that information to add GPS coordinates to photos in Lightroom that I take with other cameras.

I've looked at the EXIF data attached to the iPhone images using the command line tool mdls. It shows that some GPS location information is being recorded because I see the heading etc but not the lat/long data.

Here's an example output:

$ mdls IMG_0106.JPG
