Q: How do  I access and edit original date of picture in Photos

I Think the scanned pictures keep as original date the date the picture was scanned regardless of date change through Photos. Wow do I access the original date and change that. This is giving me problems with the Collections view as it is jumbling pictures out of chronological sequence

To change the date/time of a photo, select the 1 or more photos and use "Adjust date and time" in the "Image" menu (as in the screenshot below - unfortunately in French).

However, as with all other edits, I assume that it does not change the date/time of the file itself, but only in the metadata database of the Photos app. This is fine as long as you keep working with your photos in the Photos app. But I guess that you loose the edit when you export the originals.

Recently I got the tip in this community to use HoudahGeo (https://www.houdah.com/houdahGeo/) for adding location to batches of photos. But you can also use the app to change the date/time of the original file, even if it is already in the Photos.app database. HoudahGeo uses API of the Photos.app to tell it that the metadata of the originals have changed, to be reloaded by the Photos app.

TThanks. I will try this howdah because with the image date change I do not think it changes the original file date or location.

Again it is not changed in the Photo file  until you export eh photo(s) and then the exported photos fill have the modified date and location if you select to exprt the metadata in the export window - within Photos the dates are changed

    Hi

I looked at howdah and thought that it would not solve my problem. Fortunately in Photos I found a function repair photos which you access by pressing command and option (or alt) simultaneously, hold them  as you open photos. This will put you in the repair mode which corrected by itself all my 60 thousand pictures. It takes a while but it does the job. Thanks for your help and I hope this information comes useful to you and to anyone who reads this.
