Q: isight stand alone camera adaptor for macbook

Hi guys,

I have an original iSight camera model M9330LL it is has the old camera type plug that is square on one end and rounded on another? Is there and adaptor that will connect it to my Mac Book Pro 2012 model? will it work with iMovie?

Do you have a thunderbolt port? (Lightning bolt next to it.)

If so, I think you need to convert that to a firewire port.  Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire

I don't guarantee this is compatible or that the camera is a firewire port, but that's my guess.

Yes i have a thunderbolt port...right next to the firewire port.  So do i use 2 adaptors? to make to old camera connector fit to firewire?..and connect the firewire to thunderbolt? I'm wondering ...because i have a current version firewire to thunderbolt adaptor...but the camera does not fit it.

Or do i find another cable that plugs to the camera on one end and has firewire open the other?

This is getting complicated.  My vote is to find an inexpensive camera that's compatible with what you already have.  It will be more reliable because you don't need so many adapters and it will be newer.

I fixed it.... and now the old iSight camera works good.  I found a firewire adaptor that switched the connector from 400 to 800 model. Brand name elago for $10 on amazon. All I needed was to find the right adaptor with the old female firewire connection on one end and the newer male connection on the end that plugs into my MacBook Pro. I'm happy now to be able to use this 2nd camera with an extra long cable for projects and gadget repairs. The old iSight camera works well with some software I downloaded from the App store called Smart Recorder.
