Disk Utility Prompt: Run First Aid from Recovery.

After running Disk Utility First Aid on my MacBook Pro (macOS Sierra), I get the following message: "First Aid found corruption that needs to be repaired. To repair the startup volume, run First Aid from Recovery."

What does this mean? What do I do next?

My previous post in this thread read: The Macworld link that you posted is from July 2016. Since then, macOS Sierra has become available. Disk Utility in macOS Sierra presents different options than was the case under the previous operating system. The Disk Utility prompt currently states: "To repair the startup volume, run First Aid from Recovery." However, the Recovery button in Disk Utility is not live (dead link). Question: How do I run First Aid from Recovery?

A correction follows: In fact, I see no Recovery button in Disk Utility. I do see a Restore button, which is dead.

I have the same problem with several of my external hard drives (they run iTunes libraries). They regularly dismount themselves from the computer to which they’re connected. When I run Disk Utility’s First Aid, it tells me to reboot to Recovery and do it again. So I do. And it tells me to reboot to Recovery and do it again. It doesn’t fix any problems; it doesn’t even tell me what the problems ARE.

Now what?

Hi Hiroto, i have this message when doing first aid on Running First Aid on “TOSHIBA MK5065GSXF Media"

First Aid found corruption that needs to be repaired. To repair the startup volume, run First Aid from Recovery. Click Done to continue.

I tried to restart the computer from first -

clicking apple logo(as specified)

then system preferences

then- startup disk

however it just brings me back to the same issue. i try disk utility and click first aid again on toshiba and

get the same message.

have i missed something?
