Q: Why can you not remove a picture from Last Import album with the Delete key anymore after upgrading to Sierra?

Hello.

Until OS X El Capitan there was no problem removing a picture from the Last Import album just by pressing the Delete key on the keyboard (backspace). Now after upgrading to macOS Sierra the Delete key doesn't do anything inside the Last Import album, you just get the default audio signal from the OS for pressing a wrong key. Pressing CMD+Delete does delete the picture (from the Last Import album and the library) as expected.

If you right click over the picture you see that the option Remove from Album is present and you can use it, but why remove a keyboard shortcut that was working ok until the last version of Photos in OS X El Capitan? It doesn't make any sense.

The Delete key still works ok for removing pictures from other albums manually created by the user but it doesn't work inside any of the special albums automatically created by Photos like the Last Import album.

Last Import is a smart album.  In a smart album use command-delete ⌘⌫ to delete photos from the library.

The delete key alone will delete photos from the moments or remove photos from standard albums without deleting them from the library.

The delete key worked just fine to remove a picture from the Last Import album on OS X El Capitan. It is just on Sierra that this function has been removed. As posted before if you right click on a picture inside this album you still get the Remove from Album option in the menu, so I think it's absurd that Apple decided to remove the possibility to use the keyboard shortcut for achieving the same too.

Holding the command key and pressing delete deleted the photo from the library and therefore form the last import smart album

ight clicking gives you the remove form album command

What exactly is it you are expecting now? What ever it is you need to tell it to Apple as no one here can change anything - http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Deleting Photos from a Photos 2 Library

1 - regardless of where you are in the library, i.e. Moments, Collections, albums, smart albums or projects, select the photo(s) you want to delete and use the key combination of Command+Delete to move the photos to the Recently Deleted smart album.

2 - click on the Recently Deleted smart albums in the sidebar.

    Photos001.jpg

NOTE 1:  If you're using Photos 1.2 or earlier use the File ➙ Show Recently Deleted menu option.

3 - in the Recently Deleted album you can opt to let the photo automatically delete after the 30 day waiting period is up, delete them immediately or restore them to the library.

    Photos002.jpg

NOTE 2: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with the Delete key only deletes the photo from that item.  There is no key combination that will delete a photo from a project and move it directly to the Recently Deleted smart album.

NOTE 3: deleting a photo from a Moment or Collection (the Photos window) or the All Photos window deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.
