Q: Core Telephony Trace File Error

Just a couple of days ago, when starting up my Mac with El Capitan, an error message comes up,

CoreTelephony Trace File Error

A file for CoreTelephony tracing has failed, you may be out of disk space.  Details "error opening file/tmp.ct.shutdown, err= Operation not permitted.

Everything on my Mac seems to be running as normal except when I tried to open Photoshop Elements 13.  Neither the film programme nor the photo programme will open.  These have worked perfectly well for a long time so I don't understand what has happened.

I use both the programmes regularly so hope someone will come up with a solution.  A simple one too, I hope, as I am not an IT person.

The software was purchased in a shop and is on a disc, not a download.  I pondered reinstalling it but fear that the serial number will not be accepted if I do this.

Thank you

iMac with Retina 5K display, iOS 8.3

I have the exact problem. Mine happened after an Apple Tech fixed a wireless keyboard communication problem AND now they blame it on Photoshop. I don't think so. Please let me know if you solve this.

    thx

I was beginning to despair as I tried everything I could think of and solutions on the community were too technical and delved into places I did not want to go, and they didn't work for everyone anyway.  I decided to try Apple support chat.  After 80 minutes on the phone when assorted things didn't work, it was suggested that I either take the mac (large) into an apple store (out of the question) or reinstall the IOS.  I did that and Photoshop Elements  - films and photos - worked perfectly afterwards.  Seems to be the only way to solve it.  I did this a couple of days ago and tried to post my solving it, but I couldn't find my original  post!!  Photoshop was the ONLY thing that was affected.

    Hope it works for you.

Thanks Joan - you said you reinstalled the iOS. Isn't that the operating system for the pad and phone? Do you mean the OS X El Capitan? I wonder if upgrading to Sierra would fix the problem also.

I'm concerned that Apple Techs are not familiar with this since it is a problem with many of us. Especially since they caused my problem by doing some tests.

    Thanks again for responding.
