Apple Watch

Q: Watch only unlocks iMac sometimes

My Watch will unlock my iMac but only sometimes.  Sometimes I get a message on the iMac screen that it is being unlocked by Apple Watch and it unlocks it but then other times I get the same message and nothing happens and I have to enter my password to unlock it. What would make it only work sometimes?

    If the unlocking is giving random results, the Mac may not be able to communicate with the watch.

    Possible reasons are the Wi-Fi is not being strong enough or bluetooth peripheral devices interfering with the bluetooth connection between the Mac and the watch.
