Q: Can't open Safari from Icon on Mac Pro

Presently running OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.6 on a Mac Pro (mid 2012 version).

App store upgrade to OS X Sierra failed.

Now I cannot directly open Safari from the launchpad icon! I have to go into the app directory -> safari app package ->MacOS directory->Safari Unix executable to get Safari to start!

How can I fix this? Reinstalling 10.11.6 it didn't fix it...

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

Try deleting Safari from the Dock. You can drag it to the Trash.
The open Safari like you did. If the Safari icon is then in the Dock then right click and go to Options and select Keep in Dock

Hi IIIaass,
Thank you for your prompt response. I tried your suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't work for my problem.

The problem that I am having is not with the icon in the dock, which appears and works properly after the routine above, but with the icon in the launchpad. When I click on the launchpad icon nothing happens, and to get Safari to open I need to do the routine above. If I can fix (connect?) the launchpad icon to the Safari program, I should never need to go through the above procedure again... I hope.

Try resetting Launchpad
