Headphone volume is too loud on iPhone 5s

Having this problem on my iPhone 5s IOS 10.0.2 with two sets of original apple headphones. The volume is too loud while listening music or making calls using the headphone. If you set the volume to level 1 it's already too loud and if you increase it to level 2-3-4 you can't continue hearing because it's louder and very bad quality.

I tried the same apple headphone on other iphones and it was perfect.

How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance

Hi pixfloyd,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community! I understand your headphones are too loud when plugged in to your iPhone 5s. I use headphones all the time to listen to my music, so I can see how this would be a concern for you. I'm happy to help!

The first thing I recommend to do is try restarting your iPhone using the steps here:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're still having trouble after restarting, then we recommend to try resetting your settings. This will not erase any of your personal data, but you may want to back up your iPhone before resetting. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch .

What Reset All Settings will reset: Date & Time, Background App Refresh, Sounds, Display & Brightness, Wallpaper, Touch ID & Passcode, deregisters iMessage, resets restrictions, removes Apple Pay cards, resets your Wi-Fi network preferences. You'll need your Wi-Fi password in order to reconnect. To reset you can go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

After the phone restarts, you'll need to set those preferences back up and test it out.

Best regards.

Hi irina,

Thanks for your reply. I already did all those things from restarting and resetting to upgrading IOS to the latest 10.0.2. Unfortunately got no luck.

I also tried and cleaned the headphone port nicely. Once I asked a guy who works at "mobile repair" and he said that is a problem about a little "dust" inside of the headphone connector.

Thanks for the update, pixfloyd! Since you're still having trouble, the next step we recommend is to restore your iPhone using iTunes. This will erase your device and reinstall a clean version of iOS on your iPhone. This will help determine if this is a software or a hardware issue. Before restoring, you'll want to backup using the article mentioned previously: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you've backed up, you can use iTunes to restore the iPhone. After you've restored it, you'll want to set it up as a new device (temporarily) before restoring your data. Once it's set up as a new device, you can test it out. If it's working normally, go ahead and try restoring your backup and then test it again. You can find the steps for this below.
Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If you're still having trouble with the volume output while the phone is set up as new, then you would want to Contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Take care!
