Q: Boot Camp W10 pro stuck in "Critical_Stop_Error" reboot cycle

Hi,

I just successfully loaded W10 Pro on my iMac. I was able to get through past Key code registration and hit the first reboot. I get a windows logo, then the spinning circles (loading),  then sadly a blue screen error (Critical_Stop_Error) and a constant reboot cycle.  Everything was going according to instruction until this point.  I feel like this is windows not seeing proper drivers.

I did have to reset my NVRAM to allow the computer to select the bootcamp partition for the load.

I remember seeing someone on the forums who has same computer that was never able to resolve. I cannot find the post. I am hoping there may be someone out there who can help me through this. I am so close...yet so far.

    Also,

When I re-partition do we want to stay with the 1.5TB to 1.5 TB split?

I would try something smaller, say 500GB and we can check how it is partitioned. If it does not work, we can remove and make the partition 1.5TB.

i'm getting an error step 4:

    I typed>   diskUtil eraseDisk jhfs+SSD Disk0

Usage: diskutil eraseDisk format name [APM[Format] [MBR] [Format] | GPT[Format]] MountPoint | DiskIdentifier | DeviceNode

Completely erase an existing whole disk. All volumes on this disk will be destroyed. Ownership of the affected disk is required.

Format is the specific file system name you want to erase it as (HFS+, etc.), Name is the (new) volume name (subject to file system naming restrictions), or can be specified as %noformat% to skip initialization (newfs).

You cannot erase the boot disk.

Example: diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ UntitledUFS disk3

You will need a space between "jhfs+" and "SSD" .

I did a DiskUtil List. I have to manually type this

    /dev/disk0

    #:             Type name                    Size                    Identifier

    0:     GUID_partition_scheme     *3.0 TB                  disk0

    1:          EFI EFI                            209.7 MB             disk0s1

    2:    Apple_HFS Untitlted              3.0 TB                  disk0s2

    /dev/disk1

    #:             Type name                    Size                    Identifier

    0:     GUID_partition_scheme     *121.3 TB               disk1

    1:          EFI EFI                            209.7 MB             disk1s1

    2:    Apple_HFS Untitlted              121.0 GB              disk1s2

    /dev/disk2

    #:             Type name                    Size                    Identifier

    0:     GUID_partition_scheme     *1.3 GB               disk2

    1:          EFI EFI                            30.7 KB              disk2s1

    2:    Apple_HFS Untitlted              1.3 GB              disk2s2

So it appears disk1 is the HDD

is disk2 just a partition of this?

    Thanks

The 121TB seems incorrect, but your SSD is disk1. You will need to use disk1s2 (121GB) first and then disk0s2 (3TB) when you re-create the CS LVG.

Disk2 came from Internet Recovery and should be ignored.

    Ok

Just to be certain I have this correct

    #>  CS LVG - diskutil cs create OSX-Macintosh-LVG disk1s2 disk0s2

Yes, that is correct. If you have any errors, we can delete it and recreate it.

Ok, everything went well although my external drive isn't being recognized by time machine. I should be able to reboot and go back into OSX utilities correct?

Ok I got the drive to go. The restoration of the drive is going to take an hour or so (i don't have a FW800 to Thunderbolt adapter, so USB 2.0 it is...)

Do you want me to use the USB 2.0 or 3.0 drive to run BCA?

I will make a 500GB partition for windows.

    Thanks

    Try USB2.0 first.

Should I clear out SMC, NVRAM and unplug everything as well? I have about 10 minutes left on the restore from TM.

    Thanks

Yes, please run SMC and NVRAM Reset and continue with the BC Assistant?
