Q: Boot Camp W10 pro stuck in "Critical_Stop_Error" reboot cycle

Hi,

I just successfully loaded W10 Pro on my iMac. I was able to get through past Key code registration and hit the first reboot. I get a windows logo, then the spinning circles (loading),  then sadly a blue screen error (Critical_Stop_Error) and a constant reboot cycle.  Everything was going according to instruction until this point.  I feel like this is windows not seeing proper drivers.

I did have to reset my NVRAM to allow the computer to select the bootcamp partition for the load.

I remember seeing someone on the forums who has same computer that was never able to resolve. I cannot find the post. I am hoping there may be someone out there who can help me through this. I am so close...yet so far.

Microsoft outsourcing their help desk is worse than I remember. The conversation is going nowhere it has been 40 minutes of chat purgatory. They want to take control of my PC and install Windows 10. *Sigh*.

Do not let the M$ folks take control. W8.1 can be installed without activation. Is the installer asking for a key and not allowing you to go forward?

OK I got an 8.1 key code. However it will not allow me to install on the partition.

I think we need to clear things out. Please advise.

    Thanks

Just to be clear I want to install on Disk 1 partition 4. It wouldn't let me install or format even after I cleared the NVRAM.

Here is the lists. I'm becoming a pro.

Do you get a GPT vs MBR error when trying to install W8.1?

Nope it wouldn't let me select a drive. I'm going to try 1 more time really quick after resetting everything.

this should take just about 15 minutes. I'm going to rebuild the installer as well.

Windows could not run the initializer, to continue please re-run the installer.

I got this message right after I entered the key code. I'm going to try EFI really quick.

    and here we are...

ok here is what I see ince EFI when I select d1s4 Windows cannot be intalled to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. on EFI systems, Windows can only be instaled to GPT disks.

When resizeStack is used to create a FAT32 partition, it also creates an MBR corresponding to it. WE can remove the MBR easily and retry.

Download and install GPT Fdisk - https://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ .

You will need to disable SIP by booting into Local Recovery (using Command+R - not Internet Recovery) and click on Utilities -> Terminal and type

    csrutil status

    csrutil disable

    csrutil status

Boot normally and check the output of csrutil status which should now be disabled.

Now run (this text is for informational purposes)

    sudo gdisk /dev/disk1

    x (Experts Menu)

    o (Print the current MBR)

    n (Create a new PMBR)

    o (Print the MBR)

    w (Write MBR)

    y (Confirm)

    q (Quit)

    Now try to install W8.1.

Is does work in regular boot up. Its when I'm in recovery mode. I'm giving it another shot. No dice.

    -bash-3.2# csrutil status

    -bash: csrutil: command not found

    -bash-3.2#

You are in Internet Recovery. If you boot your Mac and hold Alt/Option key, do you see a Recovery HD icon?

I think we murdered by local recovery partition a few pages ago. This might be why i cannot boot into this mode? I am not getting the recovery icon. Just the internet variation of it.

You should have Local Recovery, even though the size on disk0s3/disk1s3 is incorrect. Your local Recovery HD may be corrupt.

Here is an example from one of my Minis. See the highlighted entries.
