Q: Boot Camp W10 pro stuck in "Critical_Stop_Error" reboot cycle

Hi,

I just successfully loaded W10 Pro on my iMac. I was able to get through past Key code registration and hit the first reboot. I get a windows logo, then the spinning circles (loading),  then sadly a blue screen error (Critical_Stop_Error) and a constant reboot cycle.  Everything was going according to instruction until this point.  I feel like this is windows not seeing proper drivers.

I did have to reset my NVRAM to allow the computer to select the bootcamp partition for the load.

I remember seeing someone on the forums who has same computer that was never able to resolve. I cannot find the post. I am hoping there may be someone out there who can help me through this. I am so close...yet so far.

Computer Specs:

3TB drive SATA HD

Bootcamp

Version 6.0.1 (6024.40.2)

Windows Partition Size:

355 GB

Loaded using

If you erase disk1s4 using the following command (and do not run it more than once under any circumstances), it will wipe the MBR too.

    diskutil eraseVolume free FREE disk1s4

This creates Free Space and will return an error because the resulting Free Space does not have a disk slice associated with it. Run diskutil list after the command and we can check the status, before you retry W8.1 installation.

Check the output of sudo fdisk /dev/disk1 and ensure there is a single entry. During installation, please pick the Free Space part as etc destination. You should not be asked to Format it.

    Ok,

new error: it happens right after i enter the key code. it is an actual windows error with red x window not a BSOD

WIndows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation.

This implies that you selected BIOS installer after we wiped the MBR by using eraseVolume, which made the disk GPT-only.

Run the following commands and then a SMC and NVRAM Reset and try again. The following commands coalesce disk1s4-disk1s7 into a single Free Space chunk.

    diskutl eraseVolume jhfs+ BC1 disk1s4

    diskutl eraseVolume jhfs+ BC2 disk1s5

    diskutl eraseVolume jhfs+ BC3 disk1s6

    diskutl eraseVolume jhfs+ BC4 disk1s7

    diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ BCMP disk1s4 disk1s7

    diskutil eraseVolume free free disk1s4

Please stop if you see any specific command generate an error, and do not proceed further.

Can you use Re: Can't resize Macintosh HD partition to check if you have any Microsoft directories in the Mac's EFI Partition? If you do not, run the two resets and use EFI Boot from the USB Installer to try Windows install.
