Q: how do I see and search in Photos by photo number
I recently upgraded to El Capitan, and with the upgrade was forced to change from iPhotos to Photos. I take photos on at least for different devices. Under iPhotos I was able to see at a glance in the thumbnail what the photo number was; and the photo number tells me which device I used (because I know what each code means). Now the metadata is hidden from the thumbnail. In Photos I can no longer see or search on the photo number. How do I restore that as a default (being able to see the photo number in the thumbnail, and be able to search on the photo number?)? I saw that I can search on keywords, but I don't want to add keywords to thousands of photos that are already numbered; I want to be able to see or search on their existing numbers straight out of the camera. Thanks.

You can run an apple script to set the photo title to the file name - Script: Changing the Title to the Filename without Extension
or you can make a smart album for each device which will show all of the photos from that deviee - file menu ==> new smart album - Camera is [selected desired camera from the drop down list]
