Q: Macbook Pro keeps restarting

So I've had my macbook pro for about a year and recently, more like 2 months ago it all of the sudden kept restarting itself. Sometimes it would happen 3 times every 10 minutes and sometimes it wouldn't do it at all. I thought my chrome app was the cause of it so I stopped using it and started using safari. For a while I believed that that was actually the problem and it worked but now it even restarts with safari. I can't watch videos, listen to music, edit photos, or just browse the internet now without it restarting. I'll be doing something and all of the sudden it will freeze for about 20 seconds and then turn black and the apple logo will pop up giving me the message "your computer restarted because of a problem" However, I don't get this message every time. Sometimes it will restart and the apps I had open will just be open when I log back in. Recently it has been happening a lot, every 5 minutes. I've been thinking, maybe I should transfer all of my files to an external hard drive and just completely restore this mac, but I really want that to be my last option aside from just taking it to apple. Mind you I was a PC person for about 4 years so learning mac is a bit harder for me so please go easy.  Has anyone had this problem and was able to find a solution?
