Q: Hard drive missing
I Was trying to do a time machine restore and everythng was going fine... until...
I got to the part where it was going to erase my hard drive and I got the error message that the hard drive could not be erased and to restart and try again. after restarting, the OS X Utilities screen came up as normal, but when I selected restore from time machine, it was able to find my external drive with the backup, but could not locate a hard drive for the destination.
So I exited time machine to try to reinstall OS X, and the disk to install to has two options, both greyed out. One is the recover HD and the other is "EFI" which says that the disk is not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). it tells me to use disk utility to enable journaling or reformat disk.
I Go to disk utility and neither the recovery HD or EFI is there. There is a Macintosh HD, but restorring and verifying disk just brings up an error. It goes into an eternal loop to "repair disk". And will not repair.

Resetting NVRAM could solve the problem.
