I bought an AT&T iPhone 7 from Bestbuy. Also checked it with lycamobile sim in USA- It worked. Hence I believe it is an unlocked phone. It was mentioned universal iPhone & i bought at full price too.
I have sent it to my brother in India. However It isnt working with indian Sim cards (Airtel, vodafone)
Error message shown - "Carrier not supported".
Could not figure out the reason why it doesn't work? Please help.

If your iPhone is locked to a different carrier than the one that you want to use, then - as referenced in my previous reply - you will need to contact the original carrier (Apple does not perform unlocking) and follow the steps here:

BestBuy does not sell unlocked phones. They sell iPhones under a flex policy agreement with carriers. That means the phones are initially unlocked for any USA carrier only, and then lock to the first USA carrier used for service. So in this case, that phone is now locked to lycamobile (or T-Mobile since some MVNO devices lock to the partner company who owns the physical network).
No. There are hacker that claim to be able to unlock it but usually all they do is take your money. In the worst case they will jailbreak your iPhone which terminates all support from Apple afterwards.
Become a T-mobile customer for the required period,
then request an unlock.

It doesn't work, because it is not unlocked. Best Buy does not sell unlocked iPhones.

Is this the full error message or is it saying more than "Carrier not supported".
But not all "foreign technologies" are supported by all iPhones. I read several incidents when US iPhones did not support the LTE technologies in India.

The OP clearly states "I bought an ATT iPhone 7 at best buy". If you buy an ATT branded phone, it is locked....no if, ands, or buts.

Contact T-mobile US to see if they offer unlocking and if you
qualify. Only the wireless provider to which an iPhone is locked
can unlock it.
There is nothing you can do. Tmobile requires that you be or have been a customer to unlock their phones. I take you are currently in India.
