That looks like a JPEG corruption. I can happen, if photos have transmission errors when downloading from the iPhone to the library, or if the internal drive has bad blocks and the photos get corrupted on the drive. It may also be a problem with the Graphic card.

Run a disk check to check your hardware.

Test, if the photos are only appearing damaged in the Photos library, but are correct if you export the unmodified originals from photos:

  • Restart the Mac.
  • Select one of the split files in Photos and use "File > Export > Export unmodified original".
  • Now open the export photo in Preview. Is the exported photo undamaged?

Exporting the pic results in the image still corrupted.

Then the photos you imported to Photos have already been damaged before you imported them to Photos.

It could be anything - the USB port you are using, the cable, or they have already beeb damaged on the iPhone. DO you still have the photos on the iPhone?

Are the photos o.k., if you send them by Mail?

Yeah its funny you say that, because they appear that way on my iPhone as well. I think because I am using Photo stream, its the reason they mirror each other. I do however have a backup for my iPhone dated a few days before these pics started looking the way they do. Im so disappointed about these pics as it hold sentimental value.

Sorry I am just now getting back. Guess what, they are on my iPad thank God! lol My iPad was not connected to the internet either so it didn't sync and add the corrupted pictures. But I still want to somehow prevent this from happening to others and coming up with a solution. Its another person on the apple thread with the same problem but nobody replied to him, reason I created a new one.
