-- Hold CTL+Alt/Option while you click the Finder icon in the Dock, select "Relaunch".
-- For the menu bar on top: check the settings in SystemPreferences->General, the setting is the second from above.

Oct 17, 2016 2:29 AM in response to Lexiepexby limavadyhigh,Unfortunately Ctl+Alt/Option didn't work. I can "relaunch" finder but nothing happens.
The menu bar isn't hidden either.
It seems like something is stopping the OS from logging out properly. If you don't mind next time it happens I might go onto Console and try and get some log files.

Oct 17, 2016 4:31 AM in response to limavadyhighby Lexiepex,Yes, good thinking, some task may freeze the logging out. Antivirus apps - which you should not have at all - are notorious for that.
