Q: Cannot Restore iCloud Backup from iOS 7 to iOS 10

Hi,

I bought a new iPhone SE (iOS 10.0.2) for my mum as her old was in the bag someone stole. She had my iPhone 4 with the latest iOS available (I believe is iOS 7.1.2) and after she was upset for losing all pictures and date I just told her that everything was safe as everything is saved on iCloud.

I received the new phone today and I tried to set it up, unfortunately it looks like iOS 10 can't read a backup from iOS 7 as I have the "Cannot Restore Backup" apparently there is a problem with the data in the latest backup (the night before they stole her phone).

Can anyone help me to understand how to fix this? She's got all the photos of her nieces and nephews and I think it's stupid that Apple couldn't keep the compatibility as older people would keep their phones for longer.

I'm one step behind this, when I select the old backup and it asks for the passwords for the contents as soon as I press skip and it starts loading the message comes up. I'll post a picture but it seems really weird.

UPDATE: the problem appears just after I select the backup where the "Restoring from iCloud" screen is.
I'm not sure if it's helpful or not but the old phone at the moment is on Lost Mode on iCloud.
ALso my mum lives in Italy and I love in the UK, could the problem be the different country?

I don't believe neither of those details will prohibit the restore from backup. You may want to -- Contact - Official Apple Support
