JVM2K (and Apple) -
I too am having problems with CarPlay and my 2016 Honda Civic Touring. In fact, so are others, as is evident from the numerous posts on messages boards from sites like www.civicx.com.
AppleJen77 - appreciate the suggestions but many of us have tried all of those and then some.
First off, the problems started since upgrading to iOS 10. When I was using iOS 9 things worked much better in regards to CarPlay.
Here is what I have personally experienced (and I know others have as well)...
As I see it from discussing this issue on other message boards there are two main CarPlay compatibility issues with the Honda Civic and a few "other" ones. The two main ones are...
- If I get in my car and connect my iPhone 6+ running iOS 10.0.2 via CarPlay, the CarPlay UI will almost always "crash" after two minutes and display a "No Device Connected" message on the screen of the Civic. If I was playing music, the music will continue to play despite the CarPlay UI going away. I cannot interact with the music (i.e. go to the next song, etc.) but it continues to play. If I unplug and re-plug in my iPhone, the CarPlay UI comes back but will likely crash again after two minutes. This two minute timeframe is VERY consistent. The workaround for this issue is to restart my iPhone before I plug it in. When I restart my iPhone I do not recall CarPlay having any problems whatsoever. Needless to say, it is inconvenient to have to turn off my iPhone and turn it back on again to use CarPlay reliably. It definitely seems like when the iPhone gets "dirty", in the sense that apps are used on it, it makes CarPlay less reliable.
- If I leave my iPhone plugged in and turn off the car and say, for example, run into a store and come back, when I restart the car I typically get a "Not Compatible" (paraphrased) message and CarPlay does not work at all. Sometimes, but not all the time, unplugging and re-plugging my iPhone back in resolves this - but then I will likely run into the first issue above. I don't run into this "compatible" issue much as I typically take my iPhone with me when I get out of the car -- but I have seen it for sure
Both of these issues are VERY easy to reproduce.
I have tried many things to resolve this including using many different cables, including at least one Apple Branded cable, and even went as far as restoring my iPhone (without using a backup) but I am still having problems. I am pretty sure I (and others) are on the latest firmware offered up by Honda.
Many of us are at a loss on how to move forward with this. There appears to be some compatibility issues between the 2016 Honda Civic and iOS 10 when it comes to CarPlay. I'd be happy to provide any other information if need be.
