Whatsapp won't backup to iCloud even though I have 48G free there

I have an iPhone 6s Plus, with 64GB. I am paying for 50 GB a month on iCloud, of which I have 48GB available.

I am trying to backup and then delete Whatsapp in order to make more room on my phone but I am getting an error message that says "Not Enough iPhone Storage. Free up 2.1 GB of storage space on your iPhone to back up your chats."

This is frustrating - why am I paying for extra room on iCloud if I need more room on my iPhone in order to use it?

It is a big trouble: the trouble is that, like i understand it, whatsapp before uploading backup file(s) to icloud doing pre-backup file(s) copy on iphone localt and after transfer that copy to icloud. The problem is, that, if you, for example, have 64GB iPhone and whatsapp data totaly is more then 32GB (usually less, because you never have 64gb clear space) - whatsapp can'd to get pre-backup files, because free space localy it is not enough.

And fromt that point starting "dark troubles side" - whatsapp is hanging on uploading process, and not important - free you more space by delete somephing (apps, photo, video, whatsapp data); switch off/on whatsapp - nothing do unHanging your whatsapp backup process. Sometimes whatsapp updates it is helps: after update whatsapp do an optimization and after that backup process restarting...

More important thing, that not every time you can free enough free space localy...
