Mid-2010 17" Macbook Pro worth it? (Does it have the logic board problems?

Hello, I am in the market again to buy my first used macbook. I've been looking around at different models, and I have considered possibly getting a 17 inch. I have heard bad things dealing with the mid-2010 15" models with GPU Panics or logic boards failing. I just wanted to see whether anyone knew if the 17" models have these problems as well, since I have seen some on ebay that are affordable.

I'm also considering 15"/17" 2009 models and 15" 2011 models if I can afford any, since some have sold in my price range for every model. If the mid-2010 17" isn't worth it, which other model would you recommend instead? Thanks!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

The replacement program was only for the 15" 2010 MBP (model identifier 6,1) and NOT for the 17" model.

The 2010 MBP is the oldest that will be able to run Sierra, the newest OSX. The 2009 models will not.

I have a 17" 2010 MBP in my inventory and I have installed the maximum RAM that it will accept (8GB) and an SSD. Though old by current standards, I find the performance acceptable. BobTheFisherman's point of being a 'vintage' MBP and soon to become an 'obsolete' by Apple support is a valid admonition.

That said, if the price is right, it is the oldest MBP that I would consider purchasing. Be advised that purchasing a second hand MBP has many elements of risk involved. A return privilege period is well advised so that it will allow you to determine if there are any faults with the MBP.

Ciao.
