After upgrading to Mac OS Sierra - unable to print

After upgrading the OS on both of my 2012 Macs - a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini - I am unable to print on my Epson Artisan 725. I get error message "Filter Failed".

I used Time Machine and rolled back to OS El Capitan on my wife's MacBook Pro so we again have one machine that is able to print. I left Sierra on my Mac Mini optimistically hoping to find a way to print with Sierra.

I called Epson tech and spoke - trouble shooting step by step and when we were waiting for the final step, for my machine to reboot, she told me that it still wasn't going print that the Apple driver for this printer has not been updated yet by Apple and is a known issue. When I asked why we did all the trouble shooting if she knew it wouldn't work, she said that we had to do this to confirm that they had done everything possible to make sure that that was indeed the error. ---Those are my own words but the gist of the conversation.

I don't know the best place to report to apple this OS Sierra issue, but I'm guessing that if Epson knows then Apple does too.

The only other variable I can think of is that I updated both of my Macs with Solid State drives before installing Sierra. The MacBook Pro with the OS rolled back to 10.11 still prints even with the new SSD drive so I doubt that is the reason for the 'filter failed' problem.

Anyway long report to ask if anyone has discovered a workaround or fix?

Re: Printer Error

Did this start with Sierra GM or with a beta? If it started with GM, it's related to the Canon "filter failed" errors that need a fix from Apple. Changing the file type of the image your printing is a proposed workaround.

If this started with a beta, users have had success with public beta 3.

I'm not the best to answer but since I am here and just did it I'll try.

I had to google the answer. (BTW This will erase you HardDrive so make sure any new data since the last El Capitan backup date is backed up separately.) By opening "Time Machine" there is no obvious way to reinstall. You have to shut down the computer and when you re-start hold down the "Command R" keys after the beep. This will put you in recovery mode. If the drive with your time machine backup is connected you will see an option to reinstall. When you choose the last backup with the old operating system choose to restore. After choosing to reinstall it is an automatic process that will take some time so just leave it to do its thing.

You might should google how to restore from a Time Machine Backup to get a professional type answer.
