Oct 11, 2016 6:38 PM in response to tdehanby turingtest2,- iOS 10 insists on showing your cloud purchases. In the library there is a sub-section called Downloaded Music which only shows music downloaded to the device.
- Sign out of the iTunes Store on the device.

Oct 21, 2016 7:41 AM in response to turingtest2by tdehan,Not sure what you mean by 'cloud purchases'. I have no cloud purchases. I am also not signed into iTunes Store on my iPhone.
Also, all the tunes that were directly copied to my iPhone are no longer on the phone but apparently in the cloud?
so, once again:
1. Why is this happening?
2. How do I stop this from happening?

Oct 21, 2016 7:48 AM in response to tdehanby turingtest2,If you'd bought anything from the iTunes Store then it would potentially show as a cloud purchase if you were signed into the store unless you'd actively hidden it. See Hide and unhide iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store purchases - Apple Support for details.
Since you're not signed in it is more likely that you're seeing the results of a failed sync, where the device knows what should have been copied, but cannot actually access any of it.
The following steps should help with erratic syncing behaviour. They assume that all of the content you want on the device is in your library ready for restoring. If it isn't see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first. I would also recommend you copy everything out of the camera roll if you haven't already.
- Backup device.
- Restore as a new device.
- Restore the backup you made earlier.
Use an encrypted backup if you want to preserve passwords, wi-fi settings, web history and health & homekit data where appropriate.
As for your original questions. 1. Stuff happens. 2. Don't interrupt iTunes while it is syncing. I'm sure it is supposed to be able to gracefully recover but it seems that doesn't always work out so well.

Oct 21, 2016 11:44 AM in response to turingtest2by tdehan,This is even more confusing than prior. I've never sync'd my phone to the store. I've never signed into the store with my phone. I used to have about 20 tunes I copied to my phone and would play them directly off of my phone. Now, none of the tunes I copied to the phone are on the phone any longer but are apparently in the cloud somewhere as well as numerous other albums that I've never copied to the cloud.

Oct 21, 2016 12:14 PM in response to tdehanby turingtest2,Have you signed up for iTunes Match or Apple Music? Check on your device under Settings > iTunes and App Stores that you are not signed into any Apple ID. If you are signed in any unhidden past purchases on that account may be visible, regardless of the automatic download settings below.

Oct 21, 2016 12:35 PM in response to tdehanby turingtest2,Well if what you're seeing on the device isn't stuff that was in your library at some point in time then that is a mystery. The steps I gave above should still serve to clear up any stalled transfers and allow you to choose exactly what syncs to the device.
