Q: Total photo count is off after migrating from iPhoto to Photos app

I am on OS X El Capitan (10.11.6).  I had previously migrated to the Photos app and I noticed a small difference in total photo count but did not worry because it was just a handful of photos.  Then the other day, I loaded Photos and it wanted to re-update my library.  It would never get past 24% so I moved my Photos Library and started from scratch with my iPhoto Library.  After migration happened, I noticed that my total photo count in Photos was 1221 less than what was showing in iPhoto.  My iPhoto is at version 9.6.1 (910.42) and Photos is at version 1.5 (370.42.0).  I have no copies or masters on an external drive, and I have only let iPhoto pull down photos besides uploading directly to the app.  If someone has any thoughts or theories, I am game.

Photos count - 27,583

iPhoto count - 28,804

Thanks!

Where exactly are you seeing this count? Are you combining Photos plus videos to check the count?

And unless there is a reason it would be good to get up to date with OS X sierra and Photo 2.0 - many new features and bug fixes

Photos can be showing different counts, depending on where you are looking. The count in the Photos view with moments and collections can be smaller than the count in the all Photos album, because the Moments do not include the photos from the Hidden album.

Does your library contain bursts of photos taken in a quick succession?  Photos is counting bursts as one photo, also pairs of RAW and JPEG files. After I migrated my Aperture Library I noticed, that Photos had been combining several photos into bursts, that needed splitting again.  Does the library contain RAW + JPEG pairs?

In Photos I am looking under All Photos section for my photo count.

Does your library contain bursts of photos taken in a quick succession?  Yes it does

Does the library contain RAW + JPEG pairs? No

From the way you described it, the smaller count could be due to the bursts.  I will have to check it out.

    Thanks!

If you click a burst, you can see how many photos are in this burst. Then check, if the numbers add up to the missing photos count.
