10,000 times: Sort bookmarks?

Can someone explain Apple's refusal to allow sorting of bookmarks in Safari? People have been asking for this for a decade or more and it is a trivial project, and yet Apple refuses to provide. Why? What is the rationale? I sort in an external program (SafariSort) but even so Safari very shortly screws the sort up again. It's in-freaking-sane!

Please, please, someone explain this to me.

Beyond exasperated.

Safari/Bookmarks/Export Bookmarks.

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Safari/Bookmarks.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, Safari/File/Import Bookmarks, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

Thanks for this, but maybe I was unclear in my question. I have several ways of alphabetizing my bookmarks and do use those often (because Safari continuously seems to de-alphabetize the bookmarks, like whenever I edit to delete one, or something similar).

What I am interested in discovering is what is Apple's rationale for NOT including this obviously needed and oft-requested function in Safari. As far as I know the other top-line browsers all offer built-in sorting of bookmarks. It's also a reasonable and necessary function for anyone who uses a browser often (which I assume is just about everybody).

So WHY NOT INCLUDE this function? It must be trivial, as most other browsers include it. So what is Apple's reasoning for NOT INCLUDING it after all these years?

It just seems inexplicably dumb.
