If you just updated the email address, and the Apple account is the same one, then you can use your current password to remove the Activation Lock.
If it is a different Apple account, then the Rescue email address wouldn't be the same as the Apple ID itself. You have to provide a completely different email address if you are setting up a Rescue email. However, if you can't get the Rescue email, you can contact Apple Support to get a reset link for your Security Questions: Contacter Apple pour obtenir des informations sur la sécurité d’un identifiant Apple - Assistance Apple
