How to disable Ellipsis autocorrection in Pages?

Hey folks,

I noticed that when using Pages, Keynote or Numbers, when entering three consecutive dots, these will be automatically replaced with the "ellipsis character" So ... becomes … (which in many casses looks gives visually different results).

In other apps, I don't have this behavior, so it seems to be iWork specific. Normally, I would use option + . do enter the ellipsis character.

Do you guys have a solution on how to disable this automatic replacement behavior?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to pamfrombalwyn, who provided me with a solution:

Within Pages, Numbers and Keynote you might try looking at Edit > Substitutions and try UNCHECKING 'Smart Dashes'.

Hi Peter,

thanks for the quick response.

I am using a German Apple keyboard, where option+. produces the Ellipsis.

You need to tell us what version of Pages and what version of OSX you are using because in recent versions of OSX it is handled by the Auto Substitution in:

Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Text

I am using Pages 5.6.2 on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

In the settings you suggested, Auto Substitution is turned off:

Well ... TextEdit for example works correctly and respects the made system settings for auto substitution.

Why are you trying to avoid it? The substitution is correct.

I am editing certain spreadsheet data in Numbers (where the same behavior occurs) where a certain format is very important (where typographic correctness isn't) and this kind of uncontrollable auto substitution increases the amount of work for me massively at the moment.

Best regards

Du hast das recht!

Just tested it and yes you are right!

I checked and unchecked Use smart quotes and dashes, relaunching both Pages 5.6.2 and TextEdit. TextEdit follows the setting, Pages 5.6.2 does not.
