Notifications not waking up the iwatch screen

It seems that the notifications are coming on my watch but do not wake up the screen. I have been in contact with Apple for the past 3 days and they keep resetting, restarting, repairing and nothing seems to work.

The first time after we tried resetting and repairing it did work for a few messaged. Then the next day it didn't. It seems to be doing ti selectively.

Does anyone else have this issue? If yes, how did you fix it? - Thanks

Apple Watch Series 2, iOS 10.0.2

Hi

It is normal for the screen on Apple Watch not to wake upon receiving a notification alert unless you either:

  • Raise your wrist, or;
  • Tap on the display.

To check whether you have enabled the option for Wake Screen on Wrist Raise:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wake Screen > turn on Wake Screen on Wrist Raise.

The screen should not wake upon receiving notification alerts or incoming calls except as described in my previous reply.

As the User Guide confirms:

You are wrong. Notification alerts SHOULD WAKE UP your Watch. From the beginning of the same manual:

Apple Watch displays notifications as they arrive, but if you don’t read one right away, it’s saved so you can check it later.

P.S. I've faced with the same problem on my Watch Series 3 (OS version 4.0) + iPhone 7 Plus (OS version 11.0.1).

I'm afraid that you are the one who is mistaken.

Notification alerts do not, in themselves, wake the screen.

The screen will wake only if you raise your wrist (if that feature has been enabled) or if you tap on it.

Also keep in mind that how notification alerts behave depends on the status of your devices and your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

  • If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notification alerts on your iPhone instead of on your Apple Watch.
  • If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your Apple Watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notification alerts on your Apple Watch.
  • If your Apple Watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, then notifications will go to your iPhone.
