Q: Facebook notification issue

Something seems odd with the Facebook notifications in macOS Sierra. I suddenly had an issue that whenever there is a notification in Facebook and my Mac notifies me about it, the notification banner on the upper-right hand corner of the screen says that I have 200+ (about 278) notifications pending. Also, Notification Center displays 200+ notifications.

I checked the notification in Facebook and I only had 1 notification, not 200+ as displayed by the banner and in Notification Center. It is as if that 1 notification in Facebook is multiplied by more than a hundred-fold in Notification Center.

I tried deleting my Facebook account (via the Internet Accounts tab in System Preferences) and creating it again, but to no avail. For now, I just unticked the Notification check box under Facebook's Internet Accounts settings to stop the notifications.

I hope that there's someone that could help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

I've been dealing with the same issue. Every single notification is shown as 18 new notifications. I've cleared the notifications from both Facebook and Notification Center but it still persists with osSierra on a mid-2013 MacBook Air.

I'm having the same problem. I get 106 notifications for each 1 "real" notification. It started to happen about a week ago where I had been using Sierra in some weeks. I have too just turned the notifications off until it gets solved.

I'm having this issue as well. I get 17 notifications in Notification Center for every 1 Facebook notification. As others have mentioned, this only started happening a few weeks ago and was working correctly when I first upgraded to macOS Sierra.

Same here, but I get just 9 notifications for each Facebook notification.

Happening to me, too. Prior to upgrade to Sierra, all was fine; after upgrade, I get 34 FB notifications per 1 real notification.

I tried going to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and removing / re-adding my FB account; problem persists.

So glad to see it's not just me. 1 FB notification = 17 Notifications. I haven't counted each time, but I was curious this time around. I'd also add that I can't seem to click the little to clear them all, and have to clear each one individually or just turn them off entirely.

I too have been experiencing exactly this. Honestly, the preview of the message is a bigger deal to me than the multiple notifications.  I want to glance up and see if I need to shift my attention over, as of now it is a guessing game.  As of now i am receiving 68 notifications per 1 actual notification.

I am running mid 2010 MacBook pro and upgraded to Sierra.  Everything (sans the message preview) was working fine before the upgrade and now I am expereiencing these same issues.  C'mon Apple!  This should not be a thing!

I would suggest turning off the notifications of Facebook. You can find in: System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Facebook. Uncheck/Untick the Notification checkbox and the notifications will cease.

If you have read my full statement above, I tried that approach also and nothing happened. I also did the NVRAM and SMC resets, still the problem persists. Also did a safe start-up, but the problem is still there. Currently, the only solution for this is to uncheck the Notifications options of Facebook under Internet Accounts in System Preferences.

It's either the fault of the new OS or with Facebook. I have a reply to Senhor-Ron in this discussion regarding on if this issue is due to macOS Sierra or with Facebook.

    I have the same problem.

For each real notification I get 64 notifications in Notification Center.

Decided to open up the console and reactivate Facbook notifications, which results in following:

"com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.preference.notifications.remoteservice[1018]): Service exited due to signal: Killed: 9 sent by com.apple.preference.notificatio[1018]"

I notice the cut-off at the end, curious...
