Q: Facebook notification issue

Something seems odd with the Facebook notifications in macOS Sierra. I suddenly had an issue that whenever there is a notification in Facebook and my Mac notifies me about it, the notification banner on the upper-right hand corner of the screen says that I have 200+ (about 278) notifications pending. Also, Notification Center displays 200+ notifications.

I checked the notification in Facebook and I only had 1 notification, not 200+ as displayed by the banner and in Notification Center. It is as if that 1 notification in Facebook is multiplied by more than a hundred-fold in Notification Center.

I tried deleting my Facebook account (via the Internet Accounts tab in System Preferences) and creating it again, but to no avail. For now, I just unticked the Notification check box under Facebook's Internet Accounts settings to stop the notifications.

I hope that there's someone that could help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem as you ever since I updated to OS X Sierra. I've also downloaded Go for Facebook, as you suggested. Thank you and I hope someone helps us solve this problem soon.

Just chiming in - I'm getting this too after upgrading to Sierra on my late 2012 iMac and just with Facebook, although I guess I'm lucky I only get 33 notifications per actual new Facebook notification.

I have about the same problem, except that for each "real" notification of the facebook website, I got precisely 80 notifications in macOS Sierra :-/

I'm getting this issue as well, with about 20 notifications per "real" notification.
This is happening for both facebook notifications and messages
This only started happening after I upgraded to Sierra

Same issue. I get 34-ish Facebook notifications for each real notification on my late 2012 iMac running Sierra. Tried restarting in safe mode to clear some caches, but to no avail.

I just upgraded last night... I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)... no problem with this until today! I get 17 notifications for every 1 real.

I have this too on 10.12. I decided to delete my Facebook account on my Mac and see if it worked. It didn't change anything except that I went from 74 notifications to 71.

I posted earlier as having this problem with macOS Sierra on my late 2012 iMac, but I just noticed that I'm NOT having the same problem on my early 2015 MacBook Pro with Sierra...very curious.
