Q: Cannot add second e-mail account in mail

I am trying to add a second e-mail account to Mail.  Choosing Mail, add account, I enter required data and sign in and get a message "this account already exists".  However, it does not appear as a mail box on Mail.  How can I resolve this issue?

Have you tried looking in System Preferences > Internet Accounts? Perhaps it is already entered there but inactive. At any rate, that's where you should create the new email account.

Thank you for your response.  I have done as you suggested and the account does appear in Mail and has been enabled.  However, the account does not seem to be activated and keeps on going offline.  When I put the account online it reverts to offline and therefore does not download the data from my e-mail account.  Any suggestions?

Typically when an email goes offline it is because some part of the configuration isn't correct or because you have two factor authorization set up with that account and you need to authorize. If the email account required you to enter IP addresses etc make sure you set it up properly. It would help to know what the new account ISP is.

Thank you for your response.  The ISP is BT Yahoo and the server address is mail.btinternet.com port 993 for incoming mail and 465 for outgoing mail.  The account is an IMAP account and the details of the account are the same as the account set up on outlook for mac 2011.  I am at a loss to understand why it does not seem to work on Mail.  thank  you for your help to date.

Okay, now that is strange. Did you use the Yahoo button in the Internet Accounts to add it or did you have to use the Add Other Accounts? If you used the Yahoo button give the Other Accounts a try. Just a quick thought: does BT Yahoo have a help website that tells you how to configure Mail? Another thought: is getting mail but deactivating when it tries to send?

Thank you for your quick response.  I used Yahoo to add the account.  I have been trying to resolve this issue by changing authentication and it now seems to work.  Thank you for all your help.

    Kind regards
