Q: How can i sort my imported fotos?

Dear community,

I have just been on a journey (time difference to my hometown 5 hours) and took some fotos with my iPhone6 and my Canon camera as well. On the iPhone the time of my destination was updated automatically. On my Canon I did it on my own.

I imported these fotos in my Fotos App. But they are not chronologically sorted. There are first some fotos from my iPhone, for example from 6 am until 11 am. Then (in 5 hours difference) there are some fotos from my Canon. They are dated with the right time (6 am). However they are sorted in the mediathek 5 hours too late (which is the time difference to the destination (might be just by chance).

It is kind of confusing and annoying though. Can you help me with that, please?

Best regards, Janik

    Hi !

    I assume:

Your iPhone photos have been imported with the correct time zone of the destination

You Canon photos have been imported with the time zone of where you did the import. As you Canon has probably no location/GPS data, Photos just takes the time zone of where you import.

You can make a smart album that shows all photos of the Canon.

Then select them all and use the menu "Image > Adjuste date and time" to set those photos to your destination time zone.

You should back up before, just in case you are not happy with the results.

Sometimes you may have to restart Photos app so that it orders correctly, after changing time zone.

Did you import the photos to your Mac  after you returned home to your current timezone?

If you import photos to your Photos Library while in a different timezone than the timezone set in your camera, photos will interpret the the timestamp incorrectly.  It use the current system time zone of your Mac to read the times.

Select all photos taken with your canon camera and use the command "Adjust Date & Time". At the bottom of the panel is   a field to change the time zone. Set this timezone to the time zone of your vacation place. This will shift the time displayed in "Adjusted" as well. Set this field back, so the adjusted time will be the same as the original time, only the timezone needs to be set differently.
