Attachments not opening in Safari using Gmail

I use Gmail for my email and I noticed recently that I can no longer open attachments in preview and I often have to refresh the page to get them to download. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of why this could be happening? It's on multiple desktop computers as well (work, home, etc.) - all Apple computers and all using the Safari browser and both in Sierra and El Capitan. Thanks so much!
