I used to be able to listen to samples of songs before purchasing - now when I select a sample - it says "join Apple Music"...??
I'm an occasional music purchaser - $120.00 a year for a maybe 3 times a year use - doesn't make sense in my budget --
Am I missing something?? - Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are under the Browse or "For You" Tabs in iTunes then that is Apple Music and playing requires a subscription.
Click on the Store option instead and look for the songs there. You should be able to play a sample by hovering over the song number and clicking the play button.
I have the same issue & am using iTunes on Windows 10. Never had problem prior to 2-3 weeks ago(it's 10/12/16 now).
Can you specify where you are seeing this occur? If you are going to the iTunes Store on a Mac, then I'm not seeing this behavior.
