Q: How do I close apps with iOS 10.0.2

Pushing the home button no longer shows me open apps to close after the upgrade to iOS 10.0.2 on either my iPad or iPhone 5. How do I close open apps. They came up once and I had 19 open.  I can't replicate how I manipulated the home button.

iPhone 5, iOS 10.0.2

double click the home button, same way it's always been.

Also note that those 19 Apps were not "open" they were suspended. Force closing them accomplishes nothing.

TThanks for your replies. Double clicking the home button no longer shows open apps on either my iPhone or iPad since the 10.0.2 upgrade. It just takes me back to the home screen. I looked thru settings and didn't see anything helpful.  If this didn't occur on 2 devices I would consider a hardware issue. Any other thoughts as some open or suspended apps can decrease battery time. Again TY

As stedman1 and this article says:

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You should force an app to close only when it’s unresponsive.  Other than that, force closing them accomplishes nothing.

TThanks for the reply. I am still stuck in that  double-clicking the home button usually takes me back to the home screen rather than showing open apps. The reason I do not like to leave apps open is that it can make the phone run hot and has been associated with  overheating of the lithium ion batteries.  This may be a glitch that Apple needs to work on.

    Try soft resetting the phone.

Hold down Power+Home until the screen goes off and you get the Apple logo.

The phone will eventually boot up.
See if that resolves the issue.

    If not,

Backup (encrypted) your iPhone on your computer using iTunes.

    Update & Restore your iPhone.

    Done.

The sure shot way of fixing all problems.

BBoth my wife and I have a similar issue. Double clicking to see all open apps now works only erratically. Apple, please issue a patch and fix this!
